As part of the changes to local government which have been implemented with the recent local elections, every local authority area in the Republic is in the process of setting up a Public Participation Network. The purpose of the PPN will be to facilitate the community sector in feeding in to Council committees. Monaghan County Council has asked Monaghan Community Forum to ‘morph’ into the new PPN, rather than set up a new body which would only duplicate the work of the Forum.
As part of this process, Monaghan Community Forum has requested that EVERY group re-registers with it, and declares itself into one of three Electoral Colleges. We think that Tidy Towns groups should fit into the Environment Electoral College. Residents Associations, and groups which are not mainly dedicated to environmental sustainability, should register with the ‘Community & Voluntary’ college.
You can find the registration form on the Community Forum’s website, http://www.monaghancommunityforum.ie, along with more information on the PPN and what is proposed.
